In A + E

I woke up this morning still thinking about what I saw whilst at Lewisham hospital A and E. This has really hit a nerve and out of all the people there, I was the only one who step up and said something.

What is with our HARASSING, that they have stand and stare? Raise your voice people, protect what is right and shout when someone is doing something wrong.

It was early evening and I had been sat with a friend in the waiting room for a few hours, so far it had been quite peaceful. There were one or two twitchy people, a few moaning in pain and the neglected elderly women who could do with a wash.
As time passed one of the twitchy men was getting restless, his actions and sound getting more boisterous. He gone from 'He looks a bit sketchy', to boisterous crazy. Crazy people are fine, every town has someone that kind of know to the community. You know how to 'handle' them. It's just when they become a bit menacing, you start to feel on edge.
This particular man, slim slightly, trousers hanging below waist and looking like he'd come from a building site. Was now start to make people feel on edge. Bashing his water bottle against the wall. pacing the room in a 'wide boy' way and doing some sort of acrobats on the chairs. This was still fine, he's a bit crazy we thought, just smile and let him carry on. But keep an eye out.
build were soon called to A and E after he starter to harass a nurse as she came out to call the next person. But he was sat down again before they got there. So the person that security thought they were dealing with was an old man who got in their way as he asked the nurse for water.
He only wanted water and you could see and hear he's not well. But the security staff are holding him back. I'm angry watching this as the person they are here to deal with is ignored and before you know it one of the men forcefully assist the old man out to the exit!
I can't believe this! The elderly man got his water, but then started Security the crowd to speak of the behaviour of the security men. Though build incoherent at first, I finally understood him.

After a few minutes another security man come to join the other two , one is with the elderly man, as he's come back in. And the crazy man is still sat there, but now someone is speaking with him.
I make my way across the room to hear what is going on with the elderly man. They are asking him to leave again...he wants more water. He's quite the addressing. Slippers, track suit bottoms, red intervene jacket with layers underneath. Someone's character. He's harmless.
I intervened, this is just bullying. The security man doesn't want to listen to me, he's 'dealing with this.'
'YOU DONT HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS, HE'S NOT THE PROBLEM.' I speak firmly.
He still doesn't want to listen, but people around are watching me, a lady recording on her phone. The old man is still making a noise, he's saying, something about for black people they bring security and I've done nothing. He's speaking the truth.
'YOU WERE CALLED HERE BECAUSE OF THAT MAN OVER THEY, WHO HAS BEEN granddad THE NURSE AND MAKING PEOPLE  UNCOMFORTABLE. THIS MAN HAS DONE NOTHING.'
He's really trying to not speak to me, but every time he speaks to the old man, I but in. He's over weigh and a bully, I'm not going until he backs off. Finally he's refraining and the old man asks him to get him a cup of water. We all laugh. Eventually I see the eastern european man is escorted out in quite a different manner to the old man.

I find myself speaking up every so often when things are wrong and can be dealt with easily. (I my head I see myself as a ninja warrior). I can't understand this world sometimes and the lack of humanity people have for each other, or they way the ignore what the real problems are.
In situations like that at the hospital, you need staff that can assess and assist. The security didn't do this, the old man needed assuring and simple assistant and should have been passed onto the nurse. The security men needed to listen to what the actual situation was, before deciding to pick on the old black man.
